Had a recent question on the gender of Lionfish … a little extra FYI

Lionfish (P.miles and P. volitans) have separate sexes from birth (called gonochoristic). The two genders are morphologically identical and can generally not be distinguished by simply looking at them, although some minor sexual dimorphism may occur during spawning (small visible differences). Males typically grow larger than females with the largest recorded to date just shy of 20 inches.
