Friday morning meeting for 9 am at Eco Dive for a Bianca C dive – scouting dive to finalize plans for the location of the laying of the plaque.  [Remember that divers must be advanced certified or have recent extensive deep diving experienced logged and an open water diver certification.  If you need a check out dive or a refresher before the weekend time is running out .. contact us today!!]

9 am Blessing of the new Christ of the Deep (going in the Underwater Sculpture Park) and the plaque to be laid on the Bianca C

11 am Bianca C dive with the Grenada Scuba Diving Association members, our regional PADI Representative, Blue Magazine press and guests to lay the plaque on Bianca C! Meeting at Eco Dive for 11 am

Afternoon – Evening: Drinks and live music by Umbrellas Beach Bar (their 1 Year Anniversary Congrats!!)

8 am Commemorative church service in the St George’s Cathedral

11 am Dive in the Marine Protected Area in the Underwater Sculpture Park at the site for the sinking of the new Christ of the Deep

11 am Clean up dive in our Marine Protected Area with our PADI rep,  Blue Magazine and the GSDA — participation encouraged!!

Yesterday members of the Grenada Scuba Diving Association kicked off International Clean-up Day activities with what will be the first underwater clean-up in a month of land, coastal and underwater efforts.  Launching from Eco Dive representatives from Scuba Tech and Native Spirit Scuba joined us along with GBN (Grenada Broadcasting Network), Dr Clare Morrall from St George’s University, Emily and Craig (SGU DVM students) and 2 visitors to the island Dereck and Andy.  A huge thank you goes out to all volunteers for donating their time and efforts to help us raise awareness and clean up our seas!  Some pictures of the afternoon …

All in all despite the sea swells and grey skies from Tropical Storm Maria to our north we had a very successful afternoon totaling 5 enormous bags of trash made up of plastic cups, clothing (a lot from Carnival Juve morning – come on guys!), picnic plates, forks, plastic bags and food packaging, cigarette boxes and butts and more …

A final thank you to all who helped, a big thank to Dr Clare Morrall for her support and the GBN for being such good sports and helping us spread the word.  For those in Grenada who are interested in seeing more check out the local news Monday Sept 12th at 7 pm.

For as much as we appreciate the beauty of the underwater world it is great to get divers in to help keep in that way! June 8th 2011!

 In anticipation of World Oceans Day on June 8th Eco Dive is getting ready to celebrate with a new step forward and a PAWARE Clean up Dive (see some of our past clean ups here).  Clean-up dive is free for participants.  Get in touch soon to reserve your space!!

Next:
We are committing to using only phosphate free soaps to help reduce our ecological imprint.  Many of the soaps available in stores are already phosphate free however not all and you have to read the labels to find out which ones are which.  A simple easy step we can all take to help reduce our effect on our beautiful planet. Non-chlorine bleach is next, this will be difficult to say the least in the Caribbean but it all starts with education and alterntatives!

A reminder to all divers, snorkelers and beach goers we are looking for volunteers to register and help with our clean up on Saturday September 25th from 9 am – 12 pm.

As part of the annual PADI Project AWARE International Clean up Day efforts we will be hosting a clean up on and offshore from Grand Anse beach.

With 15 divers already signed up from our SGUBA Club, support from Coyaba Beach Resort, a few local hands and the Montessori School committed to help we are on our way to a fantastic turn out and great results …. but, we want more …

We will be welcoming the ScubaRadio crew for a day of hiking and diving on August 24th.

The schedule:  Seven-Sisters in the morning, with some diving & night diving in the afternoon, evening.

There is still room to join the fun but let us know soon to reserve your space. Great time for a night dive with the full moon, we’ve had 3 great night dives in the last 2 weeks and look forward to welcoming the gang to Eco Dive

If we get the interest and the weather is right we will be able to offer night snorkeling at the same time. This is the ultimate experience for all snorkelers! Creepy but amazing
